Christina Pitrelli
"Whimsical." "Innocent." "Delightfully Awkward." These are words folks have used to describe the comedy of Christina Pitrelli. Christina is a comedienne, actress, and writer based in New York City. She is happy to join the New York Downtown Clown Revue as Antoinetta the Upper Westside Artist, a rainbow-blanketed clown of the unintentional variety. Antoinetta was born on a day when Christina was feeling ornery late one summer afternoon, when she found herself in her tiny studio apartment with un-brushed hair and make-up-less face, shuffling around while wrapped in a crocheted rainbow blanket. Seeing herself in the bathroom mirror, she logically began to talk in an affected voice about the merits of everything in her medicine cabinet, formulating theories on a variety of topics of which she knew little to nothing. That day marked the birth of Antoinetta the Upper Westside Artist, who has since starred in five video clips (www.christinapitrelli.com), and recently made her live theatre debut in a variety show on Valentine's Day of 2009 before a packed house at Dixon Place. If you should ever find yourself feeling ornery late on a summer afternoon, Antoinetta the Upper Westside Artist recommends reading a book in a language not your own, translated into a language also not your own, i.e., Rimbaud's Une Saison en Enfer translated into Mandarin (assuming neither French nor Mandarin are your native languages). She maintains that you might be surprised at your ability to collect metaphors merely by humming at the characters on the page.
